About Jeannette Westmoreland

Artist Jeannette Westmoreland holding one of her landscape paintings in a wildflower meadow

I’ve always been drawn to the idea that a painting can give someone a place to pause. When I paint a scene, I’m often imagining a little bit of heaven on earth—not necessarily a perfect place, but one filled with beautiful color, gentle light, and a feeling of peace. I want you to be able to look at it and stay for a while.

My paintings begin with a feeling as much as an image. Sometimes it’s the happiness and humor I see in an animal’s expression; I love the thought of one of those portraits making you smile or laugh. With people, I’m often looking for something quieter: a moment of thoughtfulness, or that unmistakable feeling of pride and joy.

I work in acrylics, oils, and inks, building up layers of paint to give each piece depth. I like to paint freely and let the brushstrokes show. The texture matters to me because it’s part of the story of how the painting was made. I want you to see the hand behind it and feel that a real person spent time there, bringing it to life.

If one of my paintings makes you smile, brings back a feeling, or gives you a moment of calm, then I’ve shared something meaningful with you.
